The AT&T Tilt is one of these smartphones, but what makes this model stand out in comparison to its rivals is its long list of connectivity options and features. The Tilt has built-in Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) and 3G (thirdgeneration) wireless connectivity in the form of HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access). The Tilt also has a built-in GPS receiver. You can use a free applications that can interact with the GPS receiver to provide directions, such as Windows Live Search or Google Maps. To keeping you connected on the road, the Tilt can provide entertainment for downtime with its music player, AT&T Mobile Music, and Cellular Video capabilities.

Because the phone has Bluetooth 2.0 stereo support, you can listen to your music wirelessly, if you prefer. Youll also find an instant messaging client installed on the phone that can connect to Yahoo, AOL, and Windows Live Messenger. Should a Kodak moment strike while you’re out, you can capture the action with the Tilts 3MP camera and 10X digital zoom. Although the pictures I took with the camera were acceptable, you must have a steady hand in order to get a decent picture. To input commands or text, the Tilt has a large, 2.8-inch touchscreen display along with a QWERTY keyboard that is revealed when you slide the screen horizontally. For easy viewing while using the keyboard, you can tilt the screen up to 40 degrees to a notebook-like viewing angle. The tilted screen is handy for watching videos or reading email while the phone is resting on a desk.

The keyboard is comfortable to use, although the two small softkey buttons at the top of the keyboard are slightly hard to access when the screen is tilted a full 40 degrees. When its time to work on the road, youll find Microsoft Office Mobile preloaded on the device with support for Word, Excel, Power- Point, and Outlook. AT&T claims that the phone supports a talk time up to four hours and standby time up to eight days. Although the Tilt may not be quite as thin or stylish as other smartphones on the market (such as the Apple iPhone), it is still very stylish and has a reasonable size, at 6 ounces and 4.4 x 2.3 x 0.73 inches (HxWxD). Overall, the Tilts true strength comes in the form of functionality. For that reason, its definitely worth considering for new smartphone owners or for current users looking for an upgrade to their AT&T 8525 or other device.

As with many converged devices, however, there are often trade-offs in terms of functionality. The Nokia N95 8GB overcomes many of those trade-offs. The phones 5MP (megapixel) camera took good-quality photos, though some lighting conditions yielded significantly better photos than others did. I also like that this phone isn’t much larger than the phone I currently carry. The price of the N95 8GB will deter some, but when you consider that this single device can function as a cell phone, camera, organizer, GPS navigation system, music player, portable gaming device, and portable storage drive, youre getting a lot of functionality for the money.

The MWg Atom Life is a baby Windows Mobile 6 Professional device. Although it incorporates an apart GSM phone, it has a acceptable PDA blueprint after an chip QWERTY deride keyboard or amount pad. It ships with a absolute printed user manual, a set of adequate ear buds with added pads, several all-embracing bung converters, an AC charger, a USB sync/charge cable, an added stylus, and a Getting Started CD. Sadly, there is no accustomed case or cradle provided with the device. Also, it is an apart GSM phone, which agency that you have to accommodate your own SIM agenda afore the buzz will function. Above the 2.7-inch blush QVGA blow awning you’ll acquisition an LED console that lights up if your array is low and if you’re charging your accessory or accepting admission messages. To the larboard of the LED console is the lens for a front-facing camera, which allows you to yield cocky portraits.

It can aswell be acclimated for video buzz calls, but unfortunately, no U.S. wireless carriers abutment this affection yet. Beneath the affectation is a five-way aeronautics button belted by six accouterments buttons: the larboard and appropriate bendable keys, the Call and End Call buttons, and buttons that actuate the Start agenda and Windows Media Player. The endure button can be reprogrammed by the user to barrage added applications. Stereo speakers abut the accouterments buttons. On the top larboard bend of the accessory is an breach for adhering a wrist-loop lanyard. About an inch beneath it you’ll acquisition two aggregate ascendancy buttons, and the bittersweet anchorage is amid at the actual basal of the larboard edge. The stylus silo is amid on the top appropriate bend of the device. Beneath it are two added appliance barrage buttons.

By default, these actuate the articulation recorder and the congenital agenda camera, but like the Media Player button, they can be reprogrammed. A miniSD agenda breach is amid on the top bend of the device, forth with the ability on/ off button. A 2.5 mm stereo headphone jack is amid on the basal bend of the device, forth with a recessed bendable displace button and a accepted mini-USB connectivity port. On the top aback of the Atom Life we acquisition the lens breach for addition 2.0 megapixel camera forth with a baby self-portrait mirror and a mini-LED strobe beam (a nice affection that’s missing on abounding added devices). Finally, the array awning on the aback of the accessory lets you admission the 1,530 mAh disposable battery; the SIM agenda breach is amid beneath the battery.

Sleek and able accessory nestles in your hand

The Atom Life is a handsome assemblage that begs to be taken home. It’s a sleek, agleam atramentous accessory that nestles in your duke as if it belongs there. It’s aswell acknowledging and quick, acknowledgment to its 624 MHz Intel processor. Finally, it has one gigabyte of onboard beam ROM, 795 MB of which is accessible for book storage. You can accompany affluence of advertence documents, PowerPoint presentations, agenda images, videos, and music files with you wherever you go. Most smartphones do not appear abutting to this affectionate of power. It’s accessible that this apparatus is advised for a austere business user, but multimedia/ gaming users would like it as well. The builtin FM radio is a nice touch, but it alone works if the ear buds or addition stereo angle is acquainted into the 2.5 mm audio jack. (I ambition accessory manufacturers would stick to the added accepted 3.5 mm jacks.)

Interestingly, if the buds are acquainted in, you can tap on the angle figure in the lower larboard bend of the awning to accept through the congenital stereo speakers. I was aghast that I could not get the FM radio to play through Bluetooth to headphones, but I was able to use them to accept to Media Player music. There are so abounding nice appearance congenital into this unit. I adulation the articulation punch and wireless administration applications. The blithely bright 2.7-inch awning is nice too. I aswell acknowledge a accessory that connects via mini-USB port, which allows me to use bargain and readilyavailable cables from third parties instead of big-ticket proprietary cables. I aswell like the abstraction that it’s an apart device, which lets me bang in my own SIM agenda and be in business. It’s too bad that the phone’s video conferencing adequacy is not yet accurate by U.S. carriers. Hopefully, our collection of aggressive carriers will get their act calm anon so we can bolt up with the blow of the world.
